Bloodwork

Blood tests help maintain good health and prevent disease.

Bloodwork is a valuable diagnostic examination that assesses your dog's or cat's overall health. By analyzing a blood sample, the veterinarian can obtain important information about various aspects of your pet's health, including:

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): This evaluates the quantity and quality of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, helping to identify issues such as anemia, infection, or clotting disorders.

  • Blood Chemistry: This measures levels of electrolytes, proteins, enzymes, and other substances in the blood, providing insights into organ function, metabolic balance, and hydration.

  • Screening for Specific Diseases: Some blood tests may include screenings for specific diseases, such as heartworm or feline leukemia

Will my pet feel pain during the blood draw?

The blood draw is generally a quick and minimally painful procedure. Most pets experience only a slight prick where the blood is taken. Blood draws are performed daily at the clinic, and our team is skilled in ensuring your pet remains as comfortable as possible.

Does my pet need to fast before the bloodwork?

This depends on the specific blood tests that will be conducted. Your veterinarian will inform you if your pet needs to fast before the appointment.

How long does it take to get bloodwork results?

In most cases, blood test results are available within 24 to 48 hours. Your veterinarian will contact you to discuss the results and their implications for your pet’s health.
