Car Safety For Pets

Travelling with pets can be a fun experience for both animals and owners but making sure our pets are safe in the car is something that is often overlooked for both long and short trips. Here are a few tips to make everyone's car ride safer and more enjoyable:

  • Dogs should never be on our lap while driving. In fact this is a very dangerous habit and is now prohibited by law.
  • Dogs should either be secured in a crate for travel or be fitted with a harness and seatbelt attachment. This will prevent a dog from being ejected from the car in an accident but also secures your dog so they are not jumping around in the backseat causing a distraction for the driver.
  • Cats should always be securely transported in a cat carrier. Cats are often very nervous leaving home but being in the carrier provides them with a small, safe place to hide. Covering the cage with a towel and playing calming music can also reduce anxiety during travel.
  • Pets should not be allowed to hang out the window. This can be a very serious hazard if they are not properly secured. For smaller dogs, a dog booster seat will allow them see outside while remaining safe.
  • NEVER LEAVE A PET IN A HOT CAR! Unfortunately this happens all too often. Plan ahead so that you do not need to leave your companion in the vehicle. If it seems unavoidable then consider not bringing them with you. Leaving a pet in the car on a hot day, even for a short period of time is not fair and in some cases can be deadly.
  • Finally, we have great pheromones, in sprays or and catnip sprays to help reduce anxiety in the car. Ask us at Boutique Pawville if your pet needs something extra to reduce stress.

Hopefully these tips will help to make travelling with your pet a more enjoyable experience. With a large variety of products available on the market, pet travel and safety has been made easier than ever. Now we can all enjoy the adventures ahead!
